Quora was great until Indians happened

 Quora

Over a decade back when I was in Bozeman, admiring the mountains and doing some physics, I stumbled on the question and answer website of quora. Stackexchange was getting bit tired for me and the quora was a breath of fresh air. There were fully articulated answers in appropriate citations for most of the questions. Most importantly, the questions. It was moderated in such a way and internet was a place where people tried to find some answers and solutions back then. Questions in quora were non trivial and information seeking. When you read a bunch of answers, you had some first hand new information, with sources tagged in those, until India and Indians happened.

Indians happened

I am an Indian myself and this answer by no means, is disparaging prose towards myfellow countrymen but let's be honest here. Suddenly tens of millions were online and of all places to take giant dump, we chose quora. From asking, what is the photo that will be 99k likes in facebook to mindless gossips about of stars and cricketers to plethora of unnecessary memes to swarming to downvote answers we don't like, yes, Indians happened. The quora is now a place where Indian left and Indian right discuss some shit and everybody discuss Indian cinema. It is not the same quora, where world history and international politics and quirky geography were discussed. It is not place where lawyers, physicists, mathematicians and economists write anymore. Quora is more of a meme dump, with us Indians discussing underneath, I mean for what.

what can you do to relive your quora experience back

I as an Indian, going to suggest and it will help you to atleast get back the old interesting and informative answers from this website. Even though Indians happened, the quora gradually became some bot infected, advertising platform, which is not really helping its cause. Firstly, unfollow anything remotely Indian. Just unfollow. Be it the topic or the answerer. Half the work is done. Either follow the author or follow the spaces. Here i would reccommend you to follow the spaces because you need not worry about the author and of course, it goes without saying that do not follow any Indian space. If you want to know or understand anything about India, search elsewhere. This whole exercise, is to make sure, we have the old quora experience back. Secondly, downvote or report anything spam or pornographic as the bot peddles you those if you do not do this. Remember, quora is q and a website. I sincerely hope quora bring their old reading(citations) back. Maybe, restrict the posting of answers without citations.
